Lymm and District Chorus was formed in 1990. We are a thriving well balanced mixed-voice choir, based in Lymm, Cheshire, attracting enthusiastic amateur singers from Lymm and the surrounding area.
Our aim, as a social, community organisation, is to be a mixed-voice performance choir, performing a wide range of music at local community events and concerts. The choir aims to promote our enjoyment of singing, whilst inspiring and entertaining our audiences. We also work towards improving our understanding and appreciation of music, and challenge ourselves to learn new repertoire and improve our musical ability.
Lymm and District Chorus was established in response to a request from a local orchestra for a choir to sing Handel’s Messiah. The success of the event led to the choir’s enthusiastic continuation and weekly rehearsals have been held on Wednesday evenings ever since.
When we celebrated our silver anniversary in 2015, this coincided with the retirement of our founder, Robin Mundy, marking both the end of an era and the start of a new one. At this point Catherine Ardern replaced Robin in the role of Musical Director.
The choir has tackled a huge variety of music over the years, ranging from oratorio to opera to gospel and jazz- including both timeless classics and modern masterpieces.
Lymm and District Chorus gives annual Christmas Concerts and performs every year as part of the Lymm Festival, also often performing at Easter and in spring concerts. We have sung in many churches in Lymm and the surrounding area over the years, including Barnton, Stockton Heath, Rixton, Moore, Manchester, Dunham Massey. We have even broadcast on radio in a live carol concert from St. Anne’s Church in Manchester.

Having heard Lymm and District Chorus in concert at Lymm Festival a couple of years ago, I heard they were encouraging new recruits. I had enjoyed singing in the school choir and recently with Lymm Big Sing, so thought I would give it a go. I was apprehensive at first, as I’m not a strong sight-reader, but was impressed by the friendly welcome and the “can do” attitude of Catherine (Musical Director). I have discovered what a joy it is to sing with this lovely group of people and I thoroughly enjoy Wednesday rehearsals and the concerts. Marcia
I last sang in a choir at school over 50 years ago! I was nervous at the start and was relieved that there was no audition! I have now been singing with Lymm and District Chorus for over 5 years. I have been introduced to music I had never heard before, gained confidence and made new friends. Singing the music we have learnt is a real pleasure. I wish I had joined years earlier. Carole
I joined Lymm and District Chorus with my wife when it was founded over 25 years ago and have enjoyed the opportunity to sing significant pieces such as oratorios, masses and secular works as well as shorter, contemporary music. The choir gives a lot of pleasure to members and audiences alike. Malcolm
