We were overwhelmed by positive comments about our Lymm Festival concert, as well as a standing ovation. Thank you to all the wonderful musicians who took part and made the performance so memorable. Here are some of the comments received from audience and choir members:

It was a wonderful evening, and a privilege to be part of such an exciting event. Thanks very much for taking the plunge to perform it.
There was something surprisingly powerful about a Muslim call to prayer in a Christian setting especially when the church bell rang part way through.
I so enjoyed singing the armed man – at the beginning I was rather nervous about it!- thank you for all you hard work, patience and positive encouragement . It really felt as though we were part of something special.
When we started to put the programme together for Lymm Festival we had decided that the first half would concentrate on music and prose from around the time of WW1. We were very lucky in the choir that one past member, Jon Hughes, now at university, had offered to arrange a piece for us, as had one of our sopranos, Tina Watmough. The rest of the first half used poetry from WW1 as well as 2 pieces of Elgar: Nimrod, played by our accompanist John Stott and the 1st movement of Elgar’s cello concerto played by Jamie Reid. Both of these pieces were beautifully played and extremely moving.
The Armed Man was the 2nd half of the concert. The choir sang with sensitivity and passion and I was extremely proud of them. The fact that we had some wonderful musicians accompanying us really added to the occasion and The Call to Prayer set the mood for the whole piece.

Carols at St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival. 2-3pm on Sunday 3rd December at St Mary’s Church, Lymm.
The Christmas tree festival ran over the weekend of 1st-3rd December, with over 30 decorated and illuminated trees on show, all provided by a variety of Lymm organisations, with over 1000 visitors over the three days. During the weekend a number of events were held, including a carol concert by Lymm and District Chorus.

Choral Cornucopia- Lymm Festival Summer Concert 2017 –Wed 28 June 2017 at 7.30pm at St Mary’s, Lymm.
A thoroughly enjoyable cornucopia of choral delights featuring Puccini’s operatic ‘Messa di Gloria’ with beautiful, expressive melodies, Vaughan Williams’ ‘Silent Noon’, Binge’s ‘Where the Gentle Avon Flows’, songs by Rutter and solos by our tenor soloist, Philip Cartwright.
Easter concert- Olivet to Calvery- 12th April 2017 at St Mary’s Church, Lymm
This piece is a lovely cantata for Easter, and was a touching performance. OLIVET TO CALVARY is a sacred cantata that recalls simply and reverently the scenes, which mark the last few days of the Saviour’s life on earth. It was written by London church organist John Henry Maunder for two solo voices (tenor and baritone) and mixed chorus, interspersed with hymns to be sung by the congregation.
This work depicts the last few days of the Saviour’s life. The rejoicing of the multitude with hosannas and palms, the view of Jersusalem from the steep of Olivet and the lament over the city, the dispersal of the money changers in the Temple, and the sad nocturnal walk on the Mount of Olivet are all portrayed in the First Part.
Part Two opens with the Last Supper, at which Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, and commanded them to love one another. Then follows the agonizing prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, the sudden appearance of the hostile crowd, the abandonment of Jesus by His disciples, His utter loneliness among ruthless enemies, the turmoil before Pilate when Barabbas is released, the tragedy of the Cross, and the triumph of Calvary.
Christmas concert – Wednesday 7th December 2016 at St Mary’s Church, Lymm.
Our Christmas concert, In Dulci Jubilo, was intended as a joyful celebration of Christmas and included a wide variety of seasonal music. Seasonal refreshments were provided during the interval which added to the seasonal atmosphere. The music was interspersed by solos and entertaining prose.
Carols and Cakes –Sunday 11th December 2016 at Thelwall Parish Hall 
Our Christmas concert featured a selection of christmas music, both well-known and some more obscure pieces. It was very well received and the many delicious cakes on offer at the event were enjoyed by all. Proceeds were donated to the Thelwall Parish Hall Renovation Fund.

The programme included a range of music from musical theatre, to oratorio and gospel. This was a fantastic opportunity to sing with another local choir. Everyone involved had positive comments about the day.
Mozart’s Requiem -Lymm Festival Summer Concert 2016 at St Mary’s, Lymm
A number of people had requested that we sing Mozart’s Requiem so we decided to use it as our main feature for Lymm festival. Since four soloists were required for the performance they also featured strongly during the second half of the concert, allowing us to use most of our rehearsal time focusing on Mozart, which really paid off. The performance was a triumph and many thanks go to our soloists.
Our Easter concert was extremely well attended. Many thanks to our soloists (who are also members of the choir), Stephen Froggatt and Malcolm Young. We were also joined by some extra singers from Barnton. The choir sang extremely well and it was a very moving performance. There was no entrance fee for this concert but there was a retiring collection, from which profits were donated to St Mary’s Church.
